Contributor: “The littlest cuts” by Eram Socat

Little cuts and little “but”s
Make giant mansions little huts,
And one “I guess” with “did your best”
Can sometimes hit you in the gut

It brings no harm to sound alarms
For off-comments that can disarm
But no intent to cause offense
Puts us in hells buoyed by charm

The need to share with none to bear
Can leave us open to despair
They yearn to aide while we’re dismayed
Which amplifies a judging air

“You know what I mean?”, a parent’s plea,
Once heard, the tone of injury
They can’t retract that fateful act
Of unexpected honesty

“I guess, maybe” you go and go
To try and switch perspectives so,
But with defense and all you’ve spent
When giving up, you say “I know”
